2017 Survey Results

Our 2017 survey of local advertisers was Launched April 3 and completed in July, yielding some fantastic insights. Our annual survey is the largest of its kind in North America. Most SMB surveys encompass a few hundred to perhaps 1,000 advertisers, or contain only a handful of questions. Ours reaches more than 7,500 advertisers who answer all 40+ questions, yielding unique insights about current and future marketing plans. What’s Asked?

This year’s survey asks 44 questions. In addition to the base questions about gross revenue, number of employees, and business type, we ask about advertising expenditures on each of 13 different types of media (digital, mobile, newspapers, cable, direct mail, etc.), and what they’re planning to increase or decrease. We also ask detailed questions about digital media expenditures, including spending habits on digital services, social media, SEM, mobile, and banner advertising.
