2019 Speakers

We have two requirements of speakers: They must be subject-matter experts on the topic at hand, and they must be great presenters.  Being a “good” speaker doesn’t cut it for us.  For 2019, you can expect to hear fresh, new insights from the best of the best, whether they’re with pureplay Internet companies, local ad agencies, media companies, or top-level industry analysts.

Sarah is president of Comscore. Before joining Comstore, Sarah spent 13 years at 360i leading the agency’s adaptability, helping marketers capitalize on industry changes, building best in class practices across creative, media and digital. She was named to the 2014 AAF Hall of Achievement and the 4A’s list of 100 People Who Make Advertising Great. She has been recognized by Ad Age’s “40 Under 40,” the Adweek 50, Adweek Power 100 and has been inducted into the Word of Mouth Marketing Hall of Fame. She has also taken the stage at Cannes Lions Creativity Festival and Fortune Most Powerful Women Next Gen Summit. She holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology and journalism from Queen’s College.  Session

As Director of Business Outreach, Darnell oversees Yelp’s North American team dedicated to building communities and educating small business owners across the country about strategies for success in a feedback-driven economy. He joined Yelp in 2009 as one of 12 Account Managers at Yelp HQ in San Francisco. After relocating to Scottsdale in 2010 as part of the team that founded Yelp’s Arizona operation, he was was promoted to begin working more closely on building up Yelp’s Business Outreach efforts. He comes from a family of small business owners and is passionate about working with the local business community. Darnell is a California native, and UC Davis alumnus. Session

As Head of U.S. Channel Sales, Justin is responsible for scaling Waze’s media products to local businesses across the United States and Canada. His focus is on building strategic partnerships to unlock new sales channels with traditional and digital media companies. Prior to joining Waze, Justin worked as a business development manager at Google, fueling acquisitions and revenue growth for Google’s Small/Medium Business team. Earlier in his career, Justin served as a Captain in the U.S. Marine Corps Infantry and built an education technology startup with his two brothers. Justin holds a degree in International Relations and Affairs from the U.S. Naval Academy and an MBA from Columbia Business School.

Leon heads up local sales efforts for Pandora, where he’s worked since January 2015.  He started as a regional vice president of local sales and was promoted to Vice President SMB, Local and Inside sales, in January 2018. Prior to joining Pandora he was Vice President and GSM of Broadcasting Leadership Marketing Group, and from 2005-2010 he was GMS of Inner City Broadcasting.  He holds a degree in business administration from the College of New Jersey. Jim is founder & president of Premion, a division of TEGNA. Premion was commercially launched in September 2016 and has quickly become a premium video ad network, delivering billions of impressions via tens of thousands of campaigns in more than 200 TV markets. Previously, he was COO of TouchTunes, a digital music company, and CEO/Board Member at Atari, where he spearheaded the successful turnaround of the US company, shifting from a retail to a digital publisher. He was promoted to CEO of the French parent company, where he led the restructuring and sale in 2013. Earlier in his career, Jim founded the games business at Universal Studios and was named as Global Head of Development for Vivendi Universal Games. He also held senior content, licensing and marketing roles at Universal, Sony Wonder and Disney. Jim is a graduate of Loyola University and Harvard University. Session

Phillip Rather is an entrepreneur and technology veteran currently working on scaling Facebook’s media and platform products to companies across the world. Phillip was an early hire for Facebook, joining the company’s Austin operation in July 2010 and helping grow it into one of the company’s largest offices. He initiated many of the first relationships and ideas that ultimately became the Facebook Marketing Partner (FMP) program. As Head of Local, Phillip is now building technology and revenue channels to localize media across across franchised, agent or dealer driven industries. Session

Rebekah joined Google in September 2016 as Head of Local TV Partnerships for YouTube TV. Prior to Google, she was SVP of Advanced Digital Services for CBS.  She began her media career at HBO, where she spent 14 years in leadership positions in technology and distribution. She is a corporate board member of Tilray (NASDAQ: TLRY), a trustee of The New York Foundling, and a fellow of the Betsy Magness Leadership Institute. She earned a degree from The College of William & Mary and completed the Cable Executive Management Program at Harvard Business School. Fran joined the Local Media Consortium as CEO in July 2018. She’s a veteran marketing and digital executive for media, technology and retail companies serving in senior leadership roles for Cox Media Group, The Dallas Morning News and The Denver Post. Throughout her career, she has pioneered digital innovation and has been at the forefront of creating media partnerships with Google, Yahoo, Monster and Cars.com to increase revenue and bottom-line results. Fran is married with three incredible children and lives on the Georgia coast. Tim is president of Townsquare Interactive, a digital marketing and services organization offering a comprehensive set of products to help local businesses connect to consumers online. It is a division of Townsquare Media Group, one of the nation’s largest media companies with 321 stations across 67 markets. Tim jumped into digital marketing nearly a decade ago and gained leadership expertise in rapid-growth, startup environments. He joined the small team that opened Townsquare Interactive’s doors in Charlotte, N.C., in 2012, as VP of Sales. Tim became the president and general manager of Townsquare Interactive in 2013 and has grown the company from 38 employees to more than 400 in the past six years. Session

Adam is General Manager of STIRR, Sinclair Broadcasting’s new “local-first” OTT service launching in 2018.  He has more than 30 years of experience in traditional and emerging media including senior management roles at the FOX network,  Interactive Corp, United Paramount Network, CJ Entertainment and now Sinclair. Ware is also Head of Digital Media for Sinclair-owned Tennis Channel, where in 2014 he launched the first ever TV network direct-to-consumer subscription OTT service called Tennis Channel Plus. Nancy is president of the Local Media Association, whose mission is to help local media companies discover new and sustainable business models. LMA works with more than 2,800 newspapers, TV stations, radio stations, digital news sites, and several hundred R&D partners in the industry.  She has been with the organization since 2000 and led its transformation from a newspaper-centric association six years ago to a true umbrella organization that brings together all local media for the purpose of networking, collaborating and learning. Prior to 2000, Nancy spent 13 years in the newspaper industry as publisher, ad director and senior executive.  She is a graduate of Villanova University and president of its alumni association. When not working, Nancy is a fantasy football enthusiast who also enjoys international travel, golfing, hiking, social media and wine collecting. Session

David is a senior vice president and sales compensation practice leader for the Alexander Group. David helps clients redefine and deploy go-to-customer solutions to ensure optimal revenue performance. Widely recognized by national professional associations and trade publications for his work in linking compensation to management’s objectives, David is a frequent speaker on sales compensation topics. He is the author of Compensating the Sales Force (3rd edition) and The Sales Growth Imperative. He holds an undergraduate degree from Penn State and a master’s degree from Michigan State University. Matt is a principal and media practice leader for the Alexander Group. Matt has a proven record of working with clients to develop actionable growth-oriented strategies, go-to-customer transformations and productivity enhancements. Matt is an expert in global and domestic sales compensation design and a leader in the revenue growth space. He is a frequent speaker and author of thought leadership content. He holds an undergraduate degree in economics from the University of Chicago and a master’s in finance and strategy from Indiana University Bloomington. Session

Matt Coen is the President & Co-Founder of Second Street, the leading provider of online promotions platforms and partner success services for the media industry. Matt also teaches entrepreneurship at Washington University in St. Louis. In 2006, Matt Co-Wrote and Produced the award winning documentary Can Mr. Smith Get to Washington Anymore? Session

Asif is a global speaker, author and serial entrepreneur. In 2010 he founded the Location Based Marketing Association, an international group dedicated to research and education in the space, and serves as its president. Prior to LBMA, Asif built four start-ups and worked with companies as diverse as Limited Brands, Barclay’s Bank, PWC, Baxter Pharmaceuticals, Molson-Coors, American Airlines, and L’Oreal. A proud Canadian and avid technology evangelist, Asif holds a degree in economics and management sciences from the University of Waterloo. He is a regular guest lecturer at several universities and hosts a weekly video podcast, “This Week In Location-Based Marketing.” Session

Rusty heads up AdHack.org, a nonprofit that seeks to illuminate the issue of digital ad fraud, seeking solutions. He was the founding Executive Director and CEO of the Local Media Consortium and is President and founder of Coats2Coats, a consultancy that works with for-profit and non-profit media companies, startups and foundations funding journalism innovation. Rusty has worked in interactive media since 1993, driving audience and revenue for such news companies as McClatchy, Magid, Media General and E.W. Scripps. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the Indiana University at Bloomington.


Jim has more than 15 years of innovative and results-driven leadership in fast-paced sales and marketing roles. Prior to joining Borrell Associates he was director of business development for for The Virginian-Pilot Media Companies in Norfolk, Va. He has worked in various sales and development capacities over the years, developing an expertise in sales development and sales management. At The Pilot, he served as one of the company’s first managers of interactive products and helped the company build a series of highly successful online news and advertising ventures in the Norfolk marketplace. He has a degree in business administration from Longwood University. Jim is married, has two children, and lives in Virginia Beach. Session

Gordon is one of the media industry’s leading analysts. He is ranked in the top 2% among Gerson Lehrman Group’s 150,000 consultants worldwide. Prior to starting Borrell Associates, Gordon was vice president for new media for Landmark Communications, where he worked for 22 years. He started his career as a newspaper reporter and helped establish the first TV, newspaper, cable and network TV websites in the mid-1990s. He is chairman of the Local Media Association and is past president of the Newspaper Association of America’s New Media Federation. He is married, has five children, and lives in Portsmouth, Virginia, where he has been active on boards and organizations supporting public education and community sports. Session

Corey joined Borrell Associates in 2014 as director of research and was later promoted to vice president. Prior to Borrell, he was director of market intelligence at Gannett Co. Inc., where he managed the dissemination of market data and strategy to more than 80 local media properties. At The Dallas Morning News he led a B2B research team that helped create campaigns based on household-level consumer habits and clients’ own databases. His application of research as well as generation-based training programs have garnered awards from secondary research companies and were considered a Best Practice by Gannett Community Publishing. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Ohio University.Session

Babak has more than 20 years as a senior executive at Fortune 500 and Silicon Valley tech companies specializing in software, hardware, Internet and mobile apps.  He has grown businesses from millions to billions in revenue. Babak is an alumnus of Harvard Business School, Stanford Management and Entrepreneurship program, and holds a BSEE/CS from SJSU. Session

Bill is the author of “The Invisible Brand,” a 2019 release that details the marketing opportunities in Artificial Intelligence. He is Vice President of Digital Media at Six Sails, advising the company on M&A and venture work.  From 2016-2018 he was Global Head of Advertising for Frankly Inc., where he managed digital advertising for hundreds of television stations, including their websites, mobile apps, and connected television (OTT) platforms. Prior to that, Ammerman was Tribune Media’s Vice President of Programmatic and Data-Driven Revenue, and held senior advertising positions with Hearst Television and Capitol Broadcasting. He has a master’s from the UNC School of Media & Journalism and has completed post-graduate work in artificial intelligence at MIT. Ian is an experienced communication coach who has presented at dozens of conferences and meetings across the country. Having spent thousands of hours helping conference presenters, he understands what is required to speak effectively and efficiently in front of groups of any size. He holds an undergraduate degree in communication from Clemson University, and a doctorate in Mass Communication from the University of Alabama.  Session

James is Chief Revenue Officer for Simpli.fi, a programmatic advertising platform built to maximize audience localization.  He is responsible for driving growth by leading a sales organization that works closely with the largest buyers of localized advertising, including brands, agencies and leading local media groups. Prior to joining Simpli.fi he had more than 20 years of sales leadership  at some of America’s most successful sales organizations, including eBay, CareerBuilder, ADP & Airborne Express (DHL).

Jonathan is vice president of business development for AdCellerant, the #83 fastest growing privately held company in the U.S. on Inc Magazine’s “Inc5000.”  Jonathan works with local media companies to enhance their digital agency solutions to drive bottom and top-line revenue across all digital channel revenue opportunities.  Prior to working at AdCellerant, Jonathan was a Search and Social Media Sales Director for AdTaxi.

Vendasta co-founder Jeff Tomlin is a visionary in all things marketing, SEO, and digital. His passion and innovative nature drives the success of the business. While conducting market research and developing strategies, he is always measuring and analyzing the effectiveness of the marketing efforts.

Tehsin joined Uberall with more than 10 years of experience in location marketing. Prior to Uberall, he spent six years in a variety of roles including Senior Director for ReachLocal’s partner channel business on the corporate strategy team, where he led key ecosystem and strategic partnerships, including Facebook. Tehsin holds a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University and an MBA from the Pepperdine University.

Peter is a Business Development Manager at Site Impact with the responsibility for relationships with media outlets. Before Site Impact Peter was the Sales and Marketing Director for the Local Media Association and was an EVP at Borrell Associates. He has been an adjunct professor at Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Business teaching Global Internet Marketing. He is a recipient of the IAB’s Service Excellence Award. He attended the International Studies program at the University of Lund, Sweden, and holds a bachelor’s degree in Communications from the University of Maryland.

A recognized industry leader, Mark helps broadcast groups increase their digital advertising dollars through Marketron’s Pitch platform and other digital products and services. Prior to joining Marketron last year, Mark was general manager of digital solutions at Steinman Enterprises/Delmarva Broadcasting. He graduated magna cum laude from S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University, where he holds a bachelor’s degree.

With more than a decade of experience as a technology and media professional, Eric leads partnerships at Reveal Mobile. E Prior to joining Reveal, he was vice president of sales for Frankly, Inc., and held sales positions at Microsoft Advertising, Collective, and Adapt.tv.  He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps. and holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from UNC-Chapel Hill.

Mark possesses more than 20 years of professional experience, technology innovation, and executive leadership. His roll-up-your-sleeves and get-it-done work ethic has been instrumental in Matrix Solutions’ evolution to becoming a global, media ad sales platform technology provider. Prior to being appointed CEO, he worked closely with the company’s executive team in his role as Managing Director for Main Line Equity Partners, who had provided Matrix Solutions with a growth capital investment. Gorman holds a J.D. and M.B.A with an emphasis in accounting from the University of Pittsburgh, and a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and German from the University of Pennsylvania.
